Human chain in Gangachara demanding 1,000-bed hospital on banks of Teesta

A human chain has been held in Gangachara, Rangpur, demanding the construction of a 1,000-bed international standard hospital in the char area on the banks of Teesta River.
 
 The human chain was organized by ‘Teesta Unnayan Forum, Rangpur’ at 3 pm on Saturday in the Mohipur Teesta Bridge area of Gangachara. Gangachara Upazila Press Club, various political, social and professional organizations participated in the program in solidarity.
 
Of particular note was the 7-kilometer-long human chain organized with the participation of children, which started from Kaknia Teesta Bridge and extended to Burihat. Students from various schools took part in this exceptional program, holding placards and festoons. The sight of the children’s human chain moved everyone present and caused a huge response among the locals. 
 
The organizers said that this symbolic participation is very significant in ensuring healthcare for future generations.
Speakers at the human chain said that if the proposed hospital is implemented, there will be a revolutionary change in the healthcare system of the entire northern region including Rangpur. Along with the local people, people from other regions of the country will also benefit from the medical services.
Abdul Alim Pramanik, convener of Gangachara Upazila Press Club, said that this hospital is a historic opportunity for Gangachara. An advanced hospital is not just a treatment center, it will be a meeting place for knowledge, research and humanity. On behalf of the press club, we declare solidarity with this great initiative.
 
Hanif Khan Sajib, member of the Central Higher Council of the People's Rights Councilsaid,  when India has stopped medical visas, our country has no alternative to building a world-class medical system on its own. This hospital will be a milestone for a self-reliant Bangladesh.
 
Maulana Nayebuzzaman, Amir of Gangachara Upazila of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, said that if this hospital is implemented, the backward people of the Char region will get advanced medical services. In the eyes of Islam, this is also a great example of human welfare. We will provide all-out cooperation for this.
 
Upazila BNP President Chand Sarkar said, we are in favor of this project regardless of party or opinion. This is not a political issue, it is the right of the people. This hospital is essential for improved medical services.
 
Laxmitari Union Parishad Chairman Abdullah Al Hadi said, the establishment of an international standard hospital in the char area of Teesta has been a long-standing demand of the people of this region. 
 
If this project is implemented, healthcare, employment and economic progress here will accelerate.
 
The proposed site is the Char Kalagachi area adjacent to the Mahipur Teesta Bridge in Laxmitari Union of Gangachara. There is about 29 acres of vacant land here, which is suitable for the construction of the main building of the hospital, helipad, training center, housing and research laboratory. 
 
The organizers said that the green, peaceful environment and improved communication system will be helpful in the successful implementation of the project.
 
People from all walks of life  participating in the human chain demanded  implementation of this project in the  nterest of socio-economic development of the people on the banks of Teesta. The 7-kilometer-long human chain with the participation of children further highlights the legitimacy and importance of this demand.
