Human chain in Baliadangi demanding activation of Grameenphone Tower
Jane Alam, Thakurgaon:
Locals in Baliadangi upazila staged a human chain on Sunday afternoon at Badambari Bazar in Ward 6 of Bara Palashbari Union, demanding network activation at a Grameenphone mobile tower established there nearly two years ago.
The protest took place in front of the Grameenphone tower, where residents of the Badambari area voiced their frustration.
Speakers at the event said that although the tower was installed two years ago, it remains non-functional, leaving the community without reliable Grameenphone network access. They highlighted the impact on education, healthcare, agriculture, and other development activities due to the lack of mobile connectivity.
Approximately 20,000 people in the surrounding area are suffering from the absence of service, which is affecting their quality of life. Despite multiple complaints lodged through Grameenphone’s helpline, no effective steps have been taken, prompting the human chain demonstration.
Locals strongly urged Grameenphone authorities to immediately activate the network at the tower.
Kazi Fahim (Poltu), the landowner on which the tower stands, stated, “Grameenphone contacted me about a year and a half ago and set up the tower, but the network remains inactive. This has caused me financial loss and deprived the local community of vital services. I call upon the Managing Director of Grameenphone to take urgent action to activate the network.”
