Human chain, awareness campaign in Betagi on World Environment Day

World Environment Day 2026 was observed in Betagi, Barguna on Friday with a human chain and public awareness campaign under the theme “Climate Change: Action Today, Security Tomorrow.”
The program was organized by Volunteer for Bangladesh, Barguna District at Betagi Press Club premises at 5:30 PM on Friday. The goal was to raise public awareness on environment protection, plastic pollution control, and building a greener earth.
Participants formed a human chain and distributed awareness messages among local residents. The focus was on reducing plastic waste and promoting eco-friendly lifestyle habits.
Students from local educational institutions, development workers, and representatives of environmental organizations joined the event.
Key speakers were Saidul Islam Montu, former President, Betagi Press Club,
Md. Ariful Islam Manna, President, Volunteer for Bangladesh, Barguna District,
Md. Imam, Public Relations Officer and
students: Mahin, Saim, Nahid, Emon, and others
Speakers urged everyone to take responsibility for protecting the environment. “Today’s awareness is tomorrow’s safe earth,” they said. They emphasized that small steps like tree plantation, reducing plastic use, and adopting eco-friendly living can bring big changes for the environment.
They stressed that environmental protection is not only the government’s duty but the responsibility of every citizen. Collective action and public awareness are the most effective tools to build a clean, green, and livable planet.
Speakers also highlighted the need for immediate action against climate change impacts. They called for large-scale tree plantation, reduction of polythene and single-use plastic, and increased public awareness to combat rising temperatures and environmental pollution.
