A mobile court has seized 4,000 kilograms of banned current nets during a raid on a fishing net factory named “Original Lion Net” located in Bilashpur village of Dohar upazila in Dhaka. Later, on the court’s directive, the seized nets were destroyed by burning on the bank of the Padma River in Moinot Ghat area. The estimated market value of the confiscated nets is approximately 1 crore taka.

On Monday afternoon, acting on a tip-off, a team led by Dohar UNO Tania Tabassum and Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Mobile Court Magistrate Tasfiq Sibgat Ullah conducted the raid at the “Original Lion Net” factory in Bilashpur village. During the raid, they seized 4,000 kilograms of banned current nets. Since the nets are illegal, they were immediately destroyed by fire on the bank of the Padma River under the court's order.

Dohar UNO  and Pourashava Administrator Tania Tabassum said the government has banned current nets to ensure the safe reproduction of native species like mother hilsa, jatka, and other fish. As part of the National Fisheries Week and under the slogan “Let’s Create Fish Sanctuaries, Fill the Country with Native Fish,” this operation was carried out against the illegal net manufacturing factory. She added that such drives will now be conducted regularly and no violators will be spared. The campaign will continue.

The drive was conducted with the participation of Upazila Fisheries Officer Mosammat Lutfaunnahar, Dohar Police Station personnel, and Ansar members.
