Housewife dies due to wrong treatment in Gobindaganj

Sharmin Akhter (27), a mother of one child, who came to the clinic in Gobindaganj, Gaibandha for a cesarean section, died due to wrong treatment.
The patient's relatives have protested against the doctor on duty in this incident.
It is learned that Sharmin Akhter, daughter of Shaharul Islam of Nayapara village of Kamdia union of Gobindaganj upazila and wife of Rana Sheikh of Mukundapur (Kanaipara) village of Kochashhar union, started giving birth after last Wednesday evening. Her family members admitted her to Samata Clinic located at Paschim Choumatha for a cesarean section.
Dr. Labib Hasan, a doctor at Gobindaganj Samata Clinic run by Reshmi Tara, operated on Sharmin. She died around 8 pm during her treatment in the operation theatre. Immediately after the incident, the doctor Dr. Labib Hasan and the clinic's director Reshmi Tara were arrested.
The deceased Sharmin Akhter's husband Rana Sheikh and her family members said that she died due to the doctor administering the wrong medicine during treatment at the clinic. When the news of Sharmin's death spread, local people and her relatives came to the clinic and protested, accusing the doctor on duty of negligence. At that time, they demanded justice for the clinic's director and the doctor on duty, including the nurses.
The doctor on duty at Samata Clinic, Dr. Labib Hasan, denied the allegations against him and said, "We treated the patient according to the proper rules - no wrong treatment was given." When contacted by the clinic's director, Ms. Reshmi Tara, her phone was switched off.
Local Mokammel Haque said that there have been cases of maternal deaths due to wrong treatment in this clinic before. They settled the matter with money. This time too, the court is going on. Administrative action needs to be taken.
When asked about this, Gobindaganj Police Station OC Bulbul Islam said, no one has filed a written complaint in this incident yet - if a complaint is received, legal action will be taken against the culprits subject to investigation.
