Home Adviser for creating awareness to stop mob justice

Staff Correspondent

Home Adviser Lt. Gen Md Jahangir Alam Chwodhury (retd) today stressed the need for increasing awareness among the people to stop mob justice.

“It is not possible all the time to control mob justice by the law enforcement agencies. So, it is required to create awareness among the people to stop the recurrence of mob justice. We are taking those involved in mob justice into custody,” he said while replying to a question about the government measures to put an end to mob justice.

The law enforcement agencies are now more active and vigilant as incidents of mob justice don’t happen again, he said.

The Home Adviser was speaking to journalists after visiting the Tourist Police Headquarters at Fareast Tower at Topkhana Road here.

He called upon the parents and relatives to keep an eye on their children so that they stay away from bad things such as mob justice.

The media can play a pivotal role in making people aware to stop mob justice, he said. Replying to a question about the authority of searching home at Gulshan by the commoners, Jahangir said that no civilian except the law enforcers have the rights to conduct searches.

Replying to a query about measures taken for stopping robberies on the highways ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr, Jahangir said they have asked the law enforcers to become more active in stopping robberies.

The Home Adviser said it is required to overhaul the Tourist Police with recruiting required manpower, giving vehicles and permanent head-office on its own land.

“Tourism has been playing a vital role in the country’s economy. So, it required transforming the Tourist Police into a time-befitting force,” he added.
