Heavy rains affect Aman farming in Dumki

Heavy rains affect Aman farming in Dumki

Shahriar Rahman Sohan, Dumki (Patuakhali)

Continuous heavy rains at Dumki in Patuakhali have increased the water level of rivers, canals and ponds.

Aman paddy paddy has suffered huge losses due to this. Aman's seed bed has been damaged several times due to heavy rains in this season. As a result, there is a seed shortage. Farmers collected seeds from different places at high prices but their frustration increased as the fields were under water.

Talking to the farmers, it is known that if the water does not recede very quickly, their seeds will be destroyed. This will greatly affect the yield of Aman. Barga farmers are the most affected. Visiting different places of Dumki, almost the same picture is seen.

In this regard, agriculturist Md. Saiful Islam said that it was not possible to grow the seeds in the seedbed of Aman due to heavy rain several times.

The late planting of Aman seedlings will already affect the crop and there is fear of further damage as the field has been submerged by the continuous rains of the last three to four days
