Grameen Telecom Sramik-Karmachari Union leader arrested

A Dhaka court on Thursday placed Vice President of Grameen Telecom Sramik-Karmachari Union Mainul Islam on a seven-day remand.
A team of Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested him in Cumilla on Wednesday night following a case against him and some other leaders of the union on charges of cheating and money embezzlement.
Mashiur Rahman, deputy commissioner of DB Gulshan Division, confirmed it and said that he was produced before Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court with a plea of a 10-day remand.
After hearing on the plea, the court granted a seven-day remand to interrogate him in the DB custody.
Earlier, two other leaders of the union were arrested in the case fined with Mirpur Model Police Station on July 4.
They are the union’s President Kamruzzaman and General Secretary Firoz Mahmud Hasan.
