Grabbing ancestral property, beating up auto-rickshaw driver, robbing them of money in Mirzaganj alleged

An auto-rickshaw driver was allegedly beaten with a stick and robbed of money after he protested against the forcible seizure of his ancestral property in Mirzaganj, Patuakhali. The incident took place in the Dakshin Amragachhia area of the upazila on Friday afternoon (June 5). The victim driver's wife, Mosa Niru Begum, has filed a written complaint with Mirzaganj Police Station.
According to the complaint, autorickshaw driver Md. Badal Hawlader (55), a resident of Paschim Subidkhali village in the upazila, had been in a dispute with his neighbors Md. Ibrahim (26), Md. Sarwar Mridha (45), Md. Kabir Mridha and Md. Selim Biswas over ancestral property for a long time. The defendants are said to be influential and terrorist in the area. They had forcibly occupied the property. Local dignitaries tried to mediate, but the defendants refused.
In continuation of this, on June 5, at approximately 4 pm, auto-rickshaw driver Badal Hawlader left his house with his auto-rickshaw. When he reached in front of the house of a certain Siraj Engineer in Dakshin Amragachhia village, the defendants ambushed him due to a previous enmity. The attackers beat him severely with sticks, causing serious injuries to his body. When Badal Hawlader screamed, the defendants beat him with punches and threatened to kill him.
The complaint further states that during the beating, the defendants snatched a touch mobile phone worth Tk 18,000 from the driver and Tk 10,000 in cash from his wallet. Later, local people came forward and rescued him and took him to Mirzaganj Upazila Health Complex for primary treatment.
When the victim's family informed local dignitaries about the incident, they advised them to take legal action. The victim's family has strongly demanded that the administration conduct a proper investigation into the incident and take strict legal action against the culprits.
In this regard, the accused Kabir Hossain said, "My son lives in Barisal. None of us are involved in this incident."
The OC of Mirzaganj Police Station said that action will be taken after receiving the complaint and investigation.
