Govt constitutes directorate over July Uprising

Around nine months after the uprising, the government has formally constituted the ‘July Mass Uprising Directorate’ to preserve its history, rehabilitate the families of those killed and injured and institutionalise the ideals of the movement at the state level.A gazette notification regarding the formation was published on Monday following a prior notification issued by the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs.The directorate was established under the ministry based on a decision taken during a meeting of the Advisory Council on December 12 last year, according to the notification.An inter-ministerial meeting, chaired by Liberation War Affairs Adviser Farooq-e- Azam, was held on December 28 to outline the establishment of the directorate.Following the meeting, a policy decision was made to form the ‘July Mass Uprising Directorate’ under the ministry, which was later approved by the Advisory Council.
