Gold prices in Bangladesh have reached a new record, with 22-carat gold rising by Tk1,470 to Tk1,51,282 per bhori (11.664 grams), the highest ever in the country.

The Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring of the Bangladesh Jeweller’s Association (BAJUS) made the decision at a meeting on Monday, citing the price hike of pure gold in the local market.

The price of 22-carat gold will now be Tk12,970 per gram, and 21-carat Tk12,380 per gram, according to a press release signed by Masudur Rahman, chairman of the committee.

The price of 18-carat gold has been fixed at Tk10,611 a gram while that of traditional gold at Tk8,739 per gram.

New prices will come into effect on Tuesday, the release added.

However, prices of silver remained unchanged.

The price of 22-carat silver is Tk221 per gram, 21-carat Tk210, 18-carat Tk181, and traditional one is Tk136 per gram.
