Shamsun Nahar Mahmud Foundation Gold Medal and Merit Scholarship and Educational Assistance Scholarship were awarded to meritorious students at Dhaka University Shamsun Nahar Hall on Sunday evening.

University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ASM Maksud Kamal was present as the chief guest and handed over gold medals, scholarship checks and certificates to the students.

Hall Provost Prof. Dr. Lafifa Jamal presided over and Treasurer Professor Mumtaz Uddin Ahmed was present as a special guest.

Shamsun Nahar Mahmood Foundation lecture was delivered by former principal of the hall Professor Sajeda Banu. The welcome speech was given by the temporary resident teacher of the hall. Farzana Ahmed. Deans of various faculties, principals of various halls, chairmen of various departments and parents were present on the occasion.

Vice-Chancellor congratulated the scholarship recipients and thanked the donors. Paying deep respect to the memory of great woman Shamsun Nahar Mahmud, Shamsun Nahar Mahmud has played a unique role for reformation and social change and for advancing the backward women's society. This gold medal and scholarship arrangement will encourage and inspire the students of the hall to move forward. Shamsun Nahar embodies Mahmud's ideology. The Vice-Chancellor urged the students to develop and enlighten themselves and stand by the society and people.

This year the gold medal was awarded to Ismat Zaman Urvashi, a student of the Department of Zoology for the academic year 2017-2018. 30 students were awarded merit scholarship and 14 were awarded general scholarship for academic year 2015-2016, 2016-2017 and 2017-2018. Besides, educational assistance scholarships were awarded to 8 underprivileged and meritorious students with the help of 6 eminent philanthropists.
