Global Handwashing Day was observed in Chapainawabganj through a rally, discussion meeting, and handwashing demonstration. The programs were organized by the District Administration and the Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE) on Wednesday (October 28).

At 11:00 am, a rally was brought out from the premises of the Deputy Commissioner's Office. A discussion meeting was subsequently held in the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner's Office. Abu Saleh Md. Musa Jangi, Deputy Commissioner of Chapainawabganj, addressed the meeting as the chief guest.

The meeting was chaired by Anisur Rahman, Additional District Magistrate. Dr. A. K. M. Shahab Uddin, Civil Surgeon of Chapainawabganj, spoke as a special guest. Representatives of non-governmental organizations and students also participated in the discussion.

Amit Kumar Sarkar, Executive Engineer of the Department of Public Health Engineering in Chapainawabganj, delivered a multimedia presentation highlighting various aspects of Global Handwashing Day. He stated that approximately 550,000 children suffer from diarrhoea every year due to improper handwashing, adding that 40 percent of these children die.

The speakers emphasized the importance of handwashing, particularly in light of the experience during the COVID-19 pandemic. They stressed that hands should be washed thoroughly with soap or handwash before eating. They also urged homemakers to ensure that their hands remain clean and free from dirt and vegetable residues while preparing food.

The program was conducted by Jon Palash Hasda, Sub-Assistant Engineer of the Upazila Department of Public Health Engineering.

Following the discussion, students were taught the proper techniques for washing their hands.
