GCED Program team visits KUP High School in Rangpur

The Director of GCC, Bangladesh  and the Director-General of the National Academy for Educational Management (NAEM), Prof Dr. Md. Zulfeqar Haider, along with  Rowshan Alam, Deputy Director, and Shah Mohammad Abdul Mabud, Teacher Trainer at NAEM, visited Kaliganj Karim Uddin Public Pilot High School to observe and provide guidance on the Global Citizenship Education (GCED) program on Tuesday. 

The guests were welcomed by the school’s administration, where they inaugurated a rooftop garden, planted trees, and launched the GCED Collaboration Centre (GCC), KUP School.

 They also issued appointment letters to the newly selected GCED Ambassadors (students). After a short rest and prayers, the school’s teachers and students organized a brief reception for the guests. The reception was chaired by the Upazila Secondary Education Officer Md. Badarul Hasan।

In his speech, the chief guest, Dr. Md. Zulfeqar Haider, emphasized that Global Citizenship Education (GCED) is not just an educational program, but a moral responsibility. He stated, "In today’s world, we all, especially students, must fulfill our duties as global citizens. We should not only care for our own environment but also help others, eliminate inequality, and work towards peace globally."

He further encouraged the participants, highlighting the importance of initiatives such as tree planting, cleanliness drives, and raising awareness about climate change. "These actions are teaching us the power and necessity of working together. I hope you all will continue to support these initiatives, making our planet more beautiful and livable," he added.

During the reception, students shared their experiences of the GCED program and their future plans. The Head Teacher, Khurshiduzzaman Ahmed, mentioned that Kaliganj Karim Uddin Public Pilot High School has been selected to participate in the GCED Collaboration Center (GCC)-Bangladesh project, in partnership with NAEM and UNESCO APCEIU. The school’s selected project is titled “Engaging Students in Environmental Awareness and Climate Action.”

Since July 2, 2025, a series of activities has been conducted, including pre-assessment workshops for teachers, students, and parents, teacher training sessions, an inaugural event, slogan and poster presentation competitions, cleanliness drives, tree planting programs, nature observations, awareness campaigns on plastic waste reduction, field trips to local communities, environmental competitions (essay writing, drawing, public speaking, photography, videography), and a climate change exchange program with students from Nepal.

Kaliganj Karim Uddin Public Pilot High School is committed to promoting the SDGs by 2030. The school will continue its efforts to educate students and the community on their roles as global citizens, fostering practices and raising awareness on key issues.
