Gazipur City polls ends peacefully

Gazipur City Corporation election have ended with the casting and receiving of votes in all the polling stations in peaceful manner.

No untoward incident was reported during the continuous polling from 8 am to 4 pm on Thursday. The commission and the observation team that came to observe the administration's activities also expressed their satisfaction with the election.

Spontaneous participation of voters was seen at various polling stations throughout the day. Mariali Govt Primary School Centre, Joydevpur Govt Primary School, Kazi Azim Uddin College, Gazipur Govt Mahila College Center visited on days from 8 am to long line of women voter.

Faridul Islam Election Returning Officer expressed satisfaction after the polling. Stating that there was no untoward incident in the city elections, he said that the voters exercised their right to vote in a very peaceful environment. He thanked everyone for that.

Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) Commissioner Molla Nazrul Islam visited various centers during the election and said that the election was held peacefully. People cast their votes spontaneously and the polling officers collected the votes properly. People have received it positively.

Ashok Kumar Debnath, Additional Secretary Election Commission Secretariat visited various centers and said that there is no such incident of any voter returning without casting his vote.

In the morning, the voter turnout was slightly low in some centers, but the voter turnout increased as the day progressed. Voters flocked to the center spontaneously like a festival and cast their votes in an orderly manner.

No candidate has made any complaint of deterioration of law and order anywhere. Gazipur Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anisur Rahman made the same comment.

Some time before the end of polling in the Gazipur City Corporation elections, a group of youths tried to enter the center on behalf of a woman councillor. When the police intervened, an argument broke out between them.

At one stage, RAB was involved and chased the youths, who ran away. Meanwhile, some voters were standing in line inside the polling station. They vote later.

Minister of Liberation War Affairs Advocate AKM Mozammel Haque commented that fair and impartial voting is possible only through EVM. He commented that voting is done through EVMs. Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque cast his vote at the city's Government Girls High School center around 12.15 pm on the polling day.

Gazipur City Elections Assistant Returning Officer HM Kamrul Islam said eight candidates contested for the post of Mayor in the Gazipur City Corporation (GASIC) elections. 480 centers were prepared for 11 lakh 84 thousand 363 voters.

Voting was conducted in 5 thousand 246 EVM machines. Various measures were taken by the administration to avoid chaos in the run-up to the election. Judicial Magistrate, Executive Magistrate, BGB, RAB, Police and Ansar members were constantly active during the election to give fair, free and peaceful election.

There were 11,000 polling officers In Gazipur City Corporation election, 246 people contested in 57 general wards and 78 people contested in 19 wards of reserved seats.

There were 480 polling stations and 3497 polling booths in the election. Total voters are 11 lakh 79 thousand 476 people. Among them 5 lakh 92 thousand 762 male voters, 5 lakh 86 thousand 696 female voters and 18 third gender voters. There were 10,970 polling officers in the election.

Incidentally, the first election of Gazipur City Corporation was held on July 6, 2013 and the second election was held on June 26, 2018.
