GAU observes July Martyrs Day

Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU) observed 'July Martyrs Day' with deep respect on Wednesday commemorating the lives lost during the historic July 2024 Mass Uprising.
The Day began with the national flag flown at half-mast, setting a tone of solemn remembrance across the campus.
To honour the martyrs and their sacrifice for justice and democracy in Bangladesh, GAU hosted a series of commemorative events.
A special documentary provided by the University Grants Commission was streamed on the universitys Public Releations official Facebook page, while a university-produced film depicting the uprisings background and impact has been screening at TSC.
A heartfelt Doa Mahfil followed the Zuhr prayer at the central mosque. Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. GKM Mustafizur Rahman, visibly moved during his address, called the martyrs eternal beacons of justice and democracy, urging all to uphold their ideals in building a just society. Commemorative programs will continue through August 5. Tomorrow, July 17, GAU will host a tree-planting ceremony and rally in the morning, followed by a documentary screening and discussion in the afternoon.
From July 24 to August 5, a photo exhibition will be held at the Faculty of Agriculture building, showcasing powerful images from the uprising. The observance will culminate on August 5 with a blood group testing and donation drive, a victory rally, a concluding Doa Mahfil, a reflection session, and a cultural program portraying the July Movement's timeline and spirit. The July 16 uprising, sparked by demands to abolish a discriminatory quota system, witnessed the tragic loss of at least five lives in Chattogram, Rangpur, and Dhaka.
The day stands as a powerful symbol of sacrifice and the enduring struggle for justice in Bangladesh.
