As there is no dumping station, the cleaners of Habiganj municipality are throwing garbage everywhere. As a result, two important areas of the city are now in ruins.

The natural environment is being destroyed due to the accumulation of garbage year after year. Suffering is increasing. Habiganj municipality, established in 1881, has an area of 9.5 sq km. About one and a half lakh citizens live here. Although the size of the municipality has not increased on paper, the housing and population of the city is constantly increasing. At the same time the amount of garbage is also increasing.

As there is no specific dumping station in the municipality, garbage is being dumped on the banks of Khowai river at Habiganj Bypass Road and Chowdhury Bazar every day. The stench of dirt near the bypass makes the air in the area of modern stadium, Ansar office, Kibria auditorium, Vrindavan government college, The Roses kindergarten heavy. On the other hand, the water of Khowai river is getting polluted due to garbage. Since there is not much entertainment in the city, countless women, men and children come to visit the modern stadium area every afternoon.

They can't stay there for long because of the stench next to it. Nurul, an employee of a fast food shop in Stadium Market, said the municipality was scattering flies all over the area day and night due to littering. People who come to visit do not want to eat anything. According to the cleaning staff of the municipality, about 1 to 1.5 tons of garbage is dumped in the two spots every day. Habiganj Municipality Secretary Fayez Ahmed said land has been purchased at Atukura in Baniachang for the dumping station. But it could not be started as local farmers prevented them from setting up dumping stations there.
