Former upazila chairman Monir arrested in Barguna

As part of the ongoing nationwide operation 'Devil Hunt', police have arrested Monirul Islam Monir, former chairman of Barguna Upazila Parishad. The arrest was confirmed by OC of Barguna Police Station, Dewan Jaglul Hasan.He was arrested on Friday at around 8:30 PM from in front of Badhghat Mosque in Dakshin Monsatali area under Ward No. 2 of Gourichanna Union in Sadar Upazila. The arrest was made under the Special Powers Act, in a case filed by the police at Barguna Police Station.Monirul Islam Monir is the son of late Abdul Majid Mia (former chairman), a former Awami League leader from Dakshin Monsatali in Gourichanna Union of Sadar Upazila. Monir was elected Upazila Chairman twice as an independent candidate. After the death of his father, he was also elected Chairman of Gourichanna Union Parishad twice in a row.OC Dewan Jaglul Hasan said, he was arrested under a case filed by the police in accordance with the Special Powers Act, as part of Operation Devil Hunt.
