Former State Minister, AL leader Abdul Mannan Khan passes away

Former State Minister for Housing and Public Works of the Awami League, former Member of Parliament from Dhaka-1 constituency, and veteran leader Advocate Abdul Mannan Khan passed away due to various complications related to old age. (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Raji’un).
On Tuesday at around 6:00 pm, he breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Square Hospital in the capital.
Subsequently, on Wednesday at 10:30 am, his funeral prayer was held with state honors at the field of Katakhali Michir Khan High School in Dohar upazila. Present at the janaza of the veteran leader were Khandakar Abu Ashfaq, candidate with the “Sheaf of Paddy” symbol and President of Dhaka District BNP; Barrister Nazrul Islam, Islamic leadership figure with the “Scales” symbol; leaders of various political organizations; and people from all walks of life. Amid the श्रद्धা and ভালোবাসা of thousands of people, he was buried at his family graveyard.
A deep shadow of mourning descended over the political arena following the death of this veteran leader. As news of his passing spread, long-time political colleagues and well-wishers gathered at the hospital and later attended his funeral prayer. Various political parties expressed condolences to his bereaved family.
According to family sources, Mannan Khan had long been suffering from various age-related complications and illnesses. He was 73 years old at the time of his death.

In 2009, he was elected as a Member of Parliament from Dhaka-1 (Dohar–Nawabganj) constituency and served as State Minister for Housing and Public Works in the Awami League-led Grand Alliance government.
He served three terms as the Central Office Secretary of the Awami League. He was also active as a member of the party’s policymaking Presidium and later as a member of its Advisory Council.
He began his political career through student politics and also served as the central president of Bangladesh Chhatra Union.
