Footpath cloth sales increase with winter in Dohar-Nawabganj
Mahabubur Rahman Tipu, Dohar (Dhaka)
A mild winter has started in the villages since last week. In anticipation of this winter, crowds have been seen shopping for winter clothes at sidewalk shops in Dohar and Nawabganj upazila headquarters near the capital. Men and women shoppers come to these floating shops in the afternoon.
More women than men have been seen buying winter clothes.
Due to the increasing winter in Doha upazila, floating shopkeepers have been seen selling more winter clothes, especially children's clothes,
In Dohar upazila headquarters, floating shops have started selling winter clothes on the sidewalk and abandoned areas of the government pilot school. Especially in the afternoon, there is a lot of crowd in shopping. These winter clothes are being sold by hanging umbrellas in floating shops on the sidewalk and in some cases in vans. Such a picture has also been seen in Narisha Bazar, Meghula Hat-Bazar, Joypara Big Bazaar.
Several floating shops near the footpath and opposite Shaheed Minar in Nawabganj have started selling winter clothes for the past few days. The same situation has been seen in the Court Building area in Nawabganj Sadar. This place is seen more crowded in the afternoon for shopping.
These winter clothes are being sold in vans by hanging umbrellas in floating shops. Besides, winter clothes are also being sold on footpaths in Bandura, Agla, and Galimpur areas. Buyers are more inclined to this direction as they find the prices of clothes on footpaths and outside less than in markets. I spoke to several buyers who came to shop on footpaths. They said that winter clothes are much cheaper on footpaths than in market shops. The quality of the products is also quite good according to the price. Therefore, they have chosen footpaths to shop everywhere as they are affordable.
As winter has started to increase, the sales are also increasing, said the floating winter clothes traders. Lavlu, a floating shopkeeper at the Government Pilot School grounds, said, "We all only do clothes business during the winter season. We sell the products only when we make a little profit over the purchase price. We do not sit around hoping for more profit. Since we do not have to pay any shop rent or any other expenses, we can sell at a lower price than the shops.
This not only saves the buyers, but also makes our sales quite good." Another businessman, Ramzan Mia, said, "The cold has increased a little in the past few days, so there is a lot of demand for clothes. Hopefully, when the cold weather gets worse in the next few days, sales will increase even more."
