Floods force closure of tourist spots in Sylhet

The local administration has declared shut all tourist destinations in Companiganj and Gowainghat upazilas until further notice due to the worsening flood situation in Sylhet.

With the announcement, tourists will not be allowed to visit popular spots, including Jaflong, Bichhanakandi, Ratargul, Panthumai in Gowainghat, and Bholaganj Sada Pathor and Utma Chhara in Companiganj for the time being.

Gowainghat Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Towhidul Islam said, “As the flood situation has worsened in the upazila, tourist centres have been shut for the public interest and to ensure public safety.”

Companiganj UNO Sunjit Kumar said the upazila tourism committee held a meeting on Tuesday noon and decided to shut down the tourist spots for public safety, considering the present flood situation.

“The tourist destinations will remain closed until further notice,” he added.
