After Japan, Malaysia, and India, Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV), which caused alarm in China, has now been identified in Bangladesh. The infected individual is a woman reportedly from Bhairab of Kishoreganj district.

This information was disclosed by the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) on Sunday (12 January).

An official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said, "On Saturday (11 January), we received a report of a new HMPV infection. The patient is also infected with Klebsiella pneumoniae. She had no history of foreign travel. She is currently undergoing treatment at the Infectious Diseases Hospital in the capital. From what we understand, her condition has slightly improved compared to before."

This marks the first known case of HMPV in Bangladesh. Health authorities are closely monitoring the situation to prevent further spread.
