Fire at substation of Kaptai water power plant

There was a sudden fire in the switch yard of the substation of Kaptai Water Power Plant located at Kaptai in Rangamati. The incident of fire happened around 7:30 am on Sunday (May 5).
Kaptai Hydropower Plant Manager Engineer ATM Abduzzaher confirmed the fact of the fire.
Engineer ATM Abduzzaher said, that the electricity supply was suddenly stopped when there was lightning and rain in the morning. A transformer in the switch yard of the substation caught fire when the power plant line was switched on later. Kaptai immediately informed the fire service, they came and brought the fire under control.
Kaptai Fire Service Station Officer Md. Shahadat Hossain said that a unit of the fire service reached the spot and brought the fire under control in about an hour. Initially, the fire is believed to have started from an electrical short circuit.
Engineer ATM Abduzzaher said, that there was no casualty in the fire but the electrical transformer was damaged. However, the power supply in the national grid is normal.
A proposal has been sent to the authorities to form an investigation committee to find out the amount of damage caused by the fire. Engineer ATM Abduzzaher said, that the actual cause of the fire and the amount of damage will be known after the investigation committee is formed and their report is received.
