Fire at oil godown in Shibganj

A fire has occurred in an oil godown named M/s Uttara Traders located at Matirghar in Mokamtala Union of Shibganj Upazila of Bogura.

The fire took place at 4:45 pm on Monday. 8 units of fire service brought the fire under control after trying for about an hour. 2 cows in a cow farm adjacent to the oil godown were burnt to death in the fire.

The owner of the godown, Abdul Ghafur, said that there were 80-90 barrels of oil in the oil godown. The fire happened suddenly when the oil was being poured from the oil drum into the drum. He claimed that the fire caused a loss of around 70 lakh TK.

Many who did not wish to be named said that because Uttara Traders is next to the Bogura-Rangpur highway, dishonest drivers and helpers of some vehicles regularly steal and sell oil here.

Deputy Assistant Director of Bogura Fire Service, Khandaker Abdul Jalil, said that a total of eight units including Bogura, Shibganj, Sonatala and Gobindaganj reached the spot and managed to put out the fire. He said that the fire started when the oil was being taken from the oil tank through an electric motor.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer Tahmina Akhter, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Tasnimuzzamana, Officer-in-Charge Abdur Rauf, Mokamtala UP Chairman Ahasan Habib Sabuj visited the spot after receiving the news of the fire.
