
Father and daughter tragically die after drowning in pond in Juri

A father and daughter drowned in a pond in Juri upazila of Moulvibazar, while teaching their daughter to swim.
The tragic incident took place at 3:30 pm on Monday (June 9) in Hamidpur village of Jaifornagar union of the upazila. The deceased were identified as Babul Ahmed Babu (58), a prominent businessman and owner of Babul Bricks, son of the deceased Khurshid Ali of Hamidpur village, and Babul Ahmed's daughter Halima Akhter (18).
It is learned that Babul Ahmed has been living in Dhaka with his family for a long time. He came home with his entire family to celebrate Eid. On that occasion, his daughter did not know how to swim, so he went to the pond in his village home to teach swimming to his second daughter, Halima, an HSC examinee from the capital's renowned educational institution, Viqarunnisa Noon School and College. At one point, the girl fell into the water from the vehicle used to teach her swimming, but when her father tried to rescue her, both of them went into the water and could not get out. Hearing the screams of the family, local people rushed to rescue them from the water and took them to Kulaura Hospital. The doctor on duty there declared them dead.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Juri Police Station Morshedul Alam Bhuiyan and prominent businessman Badrul Islam, younger brother of deceased Babul Ahmed, confirmed the truth of the incident.
