Farmer killed over land dispute, two arrested in Kapasia

A farmer was beaten to death by his opponents over a land dispute in Kapasia upazila of Gazipur. The deceased farmer has been identified as AKM Abu Taher (56).

He is the son of deceased Jamir Uddin of Tok village, the town of the upazila. After being brought to the Kapasia upazila health complex at 9 am on Friday, the duty doctor of the hospital declared him dead.

Confirming the matter, OC of Kapasia police station Kamal Hossain said that two people named Abul Kashem and Parveen have been arrested in this incident.

According to police and local sources, Abu Taher and his cousin Kashem were in a dispute with his family over a piece of land. The deceased's wife Salma Begum (40) said, "This morning, my brother-in-law Kashem cut down our tree." My husband tried to restrain me. When I tried to restrain him, Kashem hit me with a stick and his son Parvez hit my husband on the neck. Later, my husband collapsed on the spot.

Kapasia Upazila Health Complex duty doctor Kawsar Ahmed said that he was brought dead to the hospital. When asked if there were any injury marks, he said that details will be given later.
