
Fake intelligence agency man arrested in Barishal

A fraudster has been arrested while trying to enter the Barisal Central Jail as a detective.
The prison authorities arrested him on Saturday morning and handed him over to the police station. At that time, a walkie-talkie, a motorcycle, two mobile phones and some documents were seized from him. The arrested Mehedi Hasan Shaon is the son of Md. Firoz Alam of Defulia village in Barisal Sadar upazila.
Senior Jail Superintendent Muhammad Manjur Hossain said that at around 3 pm on Friday, Shaon wanted to meet Hossain Al Suhan, a student in jail. He was then asked to come on Saturday morning. The next morning, he came and introduced himself as a member of DGFI. When he was suspicious, he failed to show his ID card when asked. Later, his fake identity was leaked.
During initial interrogation, Shawon admitted to his fraud, but did not say why he wanted to meet defendant Hossain in prison.
Local sources said that Shaon had been defrauding people for a long time using fake identities. Sometimes he pretended to be DGFI, sometimes BGB, and sometimes a law enforcement officer. He is accused of taking money from various people in the name of providing jobs. One of his accomplices in these crimes was a so-called journalist from Saheberhat, Barisal. The two were often seen harassing ordinary people in different places in the eastern region on motorcycles.
Jail Superintendent Manjur Hossain also said that Shaon was previously in prison in a fraud case in 2024. Case number CR 264/23.
