Expelled Krishak League leader sentenced to life in Rajbari drug case

Rajbari district court has sentenced Md. Habibur Rahman (40), the expelled former president of Rajbari's Goalando Upazila Krishak League, to life imprisonment in a drug case. Apart from this, he was also sentenced to 6 months imprisonment without paying a fine of Tk 10,000.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-1, Rajbari Judge Jannatun Lilifa Akhtar Ja issued the order on Wednesday (July 3) afternoon.

Convicted Habibur Rahman is the son of Jonab Ali of Kumrakandi village in Goalando municipality of Rajbari. On October 23, 2023, he was expelled from the post of Goalando Upazila Farmers League president for violating the organizational code of conduct of the District Farmers League. Habibur Rahman himself was present in the court when the verdict was announced.

According to court sources, on May 1, 2013, Faridpur RAB-8 raided Habibur Rahman's residence at Kumrakandi in Goland and recovered 50 bottles of Phencidil in his custody. When Habibur Rahman was arrested, he admitted his guilt during the initial interrogation. He admitted that he used to collect Phencidyl from various places and sell it.

Public Prosecutor (PP) of Rajbari Court Ed. Wazir Ali Sheikh said, after a long hearing, the learned court accepted the evidence and sentenced the accused Habibur Rahman to life imprisonment. The state party is satisfied with this verdict.
