EPR guidelines on cards to check plastic pollution: Rizwana

Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan today said Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) guidelines will be formulated to address the challenge of plastic pollution.
She said producers will have to take the responsibility until the end of their products' life cycle.
Through these guidelines, opportunities for reuse, recycling and safe management of plastic waste will increase, she said.
The environmental adviser made the remarks while addressing a meeting on the formulation of guidelines on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) to control plastic pollution. The meeting was held at the Bangladesh Secretariat here, a ministry press release said.
In the meeting, Rizwana said the collective efforts of all stakeholders can provide effective solutions to prevention of plastic pollution, which will take Bangladesh forward on the path of environment-friendly development.
She said the people should be informed about how harmful polythene and micro-plastics are. "We need to bring about a change in the mindset of the people. We need to control the plastic problem by working together," the adviser added.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary, Additional Secretaries and concerned officials of the ministry and representatives of non-governmental organizations.
