Ekhon TV journalist Masuma dies after road accident injuries

Rajshahi Correspondent

Masuma Akter, a journalist of Ekhon TV in Rajshahi, has passed away after suffering injuries in a road accident in Cumilla.

She breathed her last at 4:15 am on Tuesday after being on life support for four days.

Rakibul Hasan Rajib, senior reporter at Ekhon TV’s Rajshahi bureau, said Masuma was traveling to her in-laws' house in Cumilla with her husband last Friday when the accident occurred. After getting off a bus in Cumilla, they were negotiating fares with CNG-run auto-rickshaw drivers and at that moment, a speeding bus hit them, leaving both severely injured on the road.

Locals rushed them to a nearby hospital. Masuma suffered a severe head injury and was taken to the ICU at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Later, she was transferred to Pro-Active Medical Care in Dhaka, where she was placed on life support.

Masuma graduated with a degree in Mass Communication and Journalism from North Bengal International University, Rajshahi, and began her journalism career in 2014.

She joined Ekhon TV’s Rajshahi bureau on December 26, 2023.

Masuma was the only daughter of her parents and grew up in Gurudaspur, Natore.
