Eight including AL leader killed in capital

At least eight people, including a ruling party leader and two students, were killed in the capital on Sunday during clashes between anti-government protesters on one side, and police and ruling party activists on the other side.
Among the deceased, Anwarul Islam, 60, was an executive committee member of Dhaka North Awami League. He was killed by protesters at Uttara’s Rajlokkhi area during a chase and counter-chase waged by the opposing parties, a ward councillor from the ruling party told reporters.
A 17-year old student was also killed with bullets during the clashes. At least 30 others sustained bullet injuries.
A Daffodil International University student also died from gunshot wounds during a clash with Awami League men in the capital’s Kawran Bazar area.
Two more were killed in Mirpur, including one with bullets, and one another was shot to death in Jigatola.
