Eight Bangladeshis arrested for illegal border crossing

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has arrested eight Bangladeshis while they were returning illegally from India through the Lathitila border in Juri upazila of Moulvibazar.
The arrestees are: Mohabbat Ali Howladar and his son Robiul Howladar from Chalitabunia village under Sharankhola Police Station in Bagerhat; Selim Mia from Dharmaganj village and Abu Naim from Bulail Shantinagar village, both under Fatulla Police Station in Narayanganj; Mohim from Kulair Char village under Amtali Police Station in Barguna; Rashed Islam from Amtali village under Sariakandi Police Station in Bogura; Mamun from Dighar Kolla village under Karimganj Police Station in Kishoreganj; and Ashraful Islam from Harinagar Tatipara village under Shibganj Police Station in Chapainawabganj.
The detainees were handed over to Juri police and are currently in custody.
Juri Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Zohirul Haque confirmed the matter on Thursday (Nov 21).
He said cases have been filed against them for illegal entry into the country without valid passports. They were sent to jail on Wednesday following a court order.
According to OC Zohirul Haque, the detainees left for India illegally through different routes a year ago. They returned by crossing barbed wire fences along the border. BGB members apprehended them and handed them over to the police.
