Egypt has extended an invitation to Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus to participate in the upcoming D-8 Summit scheduled to be held later this year.
Egyptian Ambassador to Bangladesh Omar Mohie Eldin Ahmed Fahmy conveyed the invitation during a meeting with Foreign Affairs Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain on Wednesday, according to a statement from the foreign ministry today.
The summit, to be hosted by Egypt, will bring together leaders from the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation, a grouping of eight developing nations - Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkey.
The organization was officially established through the Istanbul Declaration on June 15, 1997, with a mandate to enhance development cooperation among its members.
The primary goals of the D-8 are to strengthen the member states' positions in the global economy, foster new opportunities in trade, promote participation in international decision-making processes, and improve the standard of living within the member countries.
Ambassador Fahmy reiterated Egypt's ongoing support for Bangladesh's development journey, expressing confidence in the nation's continued progress toward a brighter future.
The D-8 summit is expected to focus on key issues such as economic collaboration, trade diversification, and innovation, with member nations working together to address global challenges and foster mutual growth.
