DU Correspondent

The current Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University, Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan, whose father, Dr. Shafique Ahmed Khan, was also a former student of the same university, has made a remarkable discovery.

In 1960, his father was a postgraduate student in the Biochemistry Department at Dhaka University and secured the first position in the first class in his postgraduate examinations. After 65 years, Professor Niaz has successfully retrieved his father’s exam results.

On Wednesday night, the Vice-Chancellor shared an emotional post on the social media platform Facebook, announcing the discovery of his father’s exam results.

In his post, Professor Niaz Ahmed wrote, “With the sincere cooperation of colleagues from the Controller of Examinations Office and after much effort, I was able to find my father’s 1960 Biochemistry Department Masters examination results from the old archival records of Dhaka University. He secured the first position in the first class. He was affiliated with Fazlul Haq Muslim Hall. As a son, I feel proud and grateful to Allah.”

It is learnt that Dr. Shafique Ahmed Khan later earned a DSc degree with distinction from the University of Sarajevo in Europe. He began his career as a scientific officer at the Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR). Subsequently, he joined the Pakistan Superior Forest Service and later the Bangladesh Civil Service (Forest). He played a significant role in establishing the Institute of Forestry under Chittagong University.
