A delegation of the university administration led by Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan met Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna on Saturday evening.

The VC met the Chief Advisor of the interim government as part of his regular briefing on the overall affairs of the university. Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Saima Haque Bidisha, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed, Treasurer Professor Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury and Proctor Associate Professor Saifuddin Ahmed were present.

During the meeting, they discussed the issue of granting special status to Dhaka University for its unique contribution to the country's education and research, socio-economic development, the great language movement, the freedom struggle, the student movement of '24, including the renaissance history of Bangladesh.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan highlighted the need to construct several female and male halls as soon as possible to resolve the housing crisis of students, form a 'Special Endowment Fund' to bring all indigent students of the first-year undergraduate program under scholarship, and modernize the university's medical center to ensure medical services to students. During this time, the Chief Advisor was informed about the overall situation of the university, education and research activities, progress of various development projects, development of teacher-student inter-relationship, and various steps taken recently for the welfare of students.

Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus expressed satisfaction with the overall situation including the development of education and research at the university. He assured all possible cooperation in the development of education and research at the university, including granting special status to Dhaka University, construction of residential halls, and formation of a 'special endowment fund'.
