The fresher's welcome, reception and cultural evening of Dhaka University's Buddhist students' organization 'Dhaka University Buddhist Students' Union' was held on Saturday evening at the Rabindra Bhaban Auditorium of Jagannath Hall.

Dhaka University Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Prof Dr. Mamun Ahmed was present as the chief guest at the event.

Ekushey Padak recipient and supernumerary professor of the Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies of Dhaka University, Dr. Sukomal Barua, delivered the inaugural address at the event presided over by Jagannath Hall's Provost Debashish Pal. Kishoreganj University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Dilip Kumar Barua, Rabindra University Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Suman Kanti Barua and Dhaka University Assistant Proctor Dr. Shantu Barua was felicitated at the event. Chairperson of the Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies Dr. Niru Barua, former General Secretary of Dhaka University Buddhist Students' Union Monk Sunandapriyo Mahather, current President Abhishek Barua and General Secretary Pratik Barua spoke at the event.

Dhaka University Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Prof Dr. Mamun Ahmed said that through competitive admission tests, students get admission in Dhaka University only on the basis of merit. Religion, caste or tribe are not considered here. Students of every religion and caste enjoy equal opportunities and rights in the university.

Referring to Dhaka University as a unique institution of religious harmony, he said that students should develop as complete human beings by taking advantage of the various facilities of the university. He expressed hope that Dhaka University Buddhist Students' Union will play an effective role in promoting backward students by maintaining mutual unity, harmony and harmony.
