DU 54th convocation to be held on January 26

The 54th convocation of Dhaka University will be held on Tuesday,
The convocation speaker will be Prof. Dr. Atsushi Sunami , President of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation (SPF) of Japan. He will be awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws degree.
In addition, Professor Dr. Muhammad Harunur Rashid, one of the donors of a trust fund of Dhaka University, will be awarded an honorary Doctor of Science degree at the convocation. The decision in this regard was taken in a meeting of the Syndicate in light of the recommendation of the Academic Council. It is worth noting that President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will preside over the convocation. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has agreed to be present as the guest of honor at the convocation.
A meeting was held today, Sunday, October 11, 2026, at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban Auditorium to formulate appropriate activities to celebrate the 54th convocation in a fair, orderly and festive atmosphere. Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam presided over the meeting.
Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Prof Dr. Abdus Salam, Treasurer Professor Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Senate members Md. Amanullah Aman MP, Khairul Kabir Khokon MP and A. K. M. Fazlul Haque Milon MP, along with deans of various faculties, principals of various halls, chairmen of various departments, directors and heads of offices of various institutes were present in the meeting.
Incidentally, graduates and medalists who have obtained the results of various examinations published between November 20, 2022 and November 30, 2026 will be able to participate in the 54th convocation. The application process for participants in the convocation will begin on November 01, 2026 and will end on November 30, 2026.
An executive and management committee and various sub-committees were formed in the meeting to ensure the smooth conduct of the 54th convocation ceremony. Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam sought everyone's full cooperation in celebrating the convocation ceremony in a smooth, peaceful and festive atmosphere. He urged the sub-committees to start working immediately to organize the convocation successfully.
