Dr. Tariqul Islam exchanges views with Village Court Committee in Boalkhali

British consultant Adam Stapleton and local consultant Dr. Mohammad Tariqul Islam, a teacher of the Department of Government and Politics of Jahangir Nagar University and a member of the Local Government Reform Commission, exchanged views with the members of the Boalkhali Upazila Village Court Management Committee for the purpose of conducting an interim evaluation of the project activities.
The meeting was held at the office of the Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Boalkhali at 10 am on Monday with members of the Upazila Resource Team and Upazila Village Court Management Committee. The meeting was attended by UNO Mehedi Hasan Faruk, OC of Boalkhali Police Station Mahfuzur Rahman, Upazila Social Service Officer Piplu Chandra Nath, Upazila Women's Affairs Officer Sonia Sofi, Civil Society Member and Media Representative of the Village Court Management Committee Adhir Barua, Coordinator of the Village Court Project in Bangladesh - Craster B Farhana Idris, District Manager Md. Sajedul Anwar Bhuiyan, Upazila Coordinator Ankhi Barua and others. In this meeting, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer said that running the village court is one of the duties of the chairman. It is important to take administrative action against all the chairmans who are indifferent to performing this task. He also said that we have taken initiatives to keep an allowance for the village court in the Union Parishad budget. We have assigned the responsibility of government officials to regularly monitor the village court activities in the Union Parishad. He gave advice on the legal limitations in the operation of village courts. OC of the police station Mahfuzur Rahman said that the judges lack adequate knowledge and skills regarding the judicial process of village courts and their skills development process needs to be continued.
