The court has postponed the remand hearing of former Narayanganj City Corporation Mayor Dr. Selina Hayat Ivy, in a case filed over the killing of rickshaw-puller Tuhin during an anti-discrimination student-public movement in Siddhirganj. The next hearing date has been set for July 7. On Monday (June 30), Narayanganj Chief Judicial Magistrate Judge Moin Uddin Qadir passed the order after the hearing.

Narayanganj Court Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Zainal Abedin confirmed the development, stating that Siddhirganj Police Station’s SI Sanowar Hossain, the investigating officer of the case, filed a petition seeking a seven-day remand to interrogate Dr. Ivy. A commotion broke out among the lawyers during the session, prompting the judge’s intervention to restore order. Dr. Ivy attended the hearing virtually from Kashimpur Women’s Prison.

Senior lawyer Mahbubur Rahman, along with 10–12 other attorneys, represented Dr. Ivy in court. Representing the state was acting Public Prosecutor (PP) Omar Faruk of the District and Sessions Judge’s Court.

Ivy's lawyer, Advocate Awlad Hossain, stated that the case’s First Information Report (FIR) does not mention Ivy’s presence at the scene or any direct involvement. He added that a bail petition has already been submitted to the higher court. Based on this, the court granted the defense’s request to defer the remand hearing.

According to the FIR, on July 20 last year, Tuhin was shot in the head during an anti-discrimination movement by students and citizens in front of the Dutch-Bangla Bank on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway in Siddhirganj. He was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. On September 13, 2023, Tuhin’s wife Aleya Akter filed a murder case over the incident.

The case names 99 accused, including former MP Shamim Osman, Nazrul Islam Babu, Kaysar Hasnat, Golam Dastagir Gazi, and former city mayor Ivy, with another 300 unidentified individuals also listed as accused. Ivy is listed as the 11th accused in the FIR.

On May 9 at around 5:45 a.m., police arrested Ivy from her home in Deobhog, Narayanganj, and took her to the Detective Branch office. She was shown arrested in a separate murder case filed over the killing of garment worker Minarul on July 20 last year. The court then sent her to jail. Ivy is currently facing six cases, including charges of murder and use of explosives.
