Dr. Amin Ahmed Khondaker, a Switzerland-based Bangladeshi professor, has been recognized as a Commercially Important Person (CIP) by the Government of Bangladesh for three consecutive years (2022-24). This accolade honors his significant contributions to the country's economy as the top remittance-sender through legal channels in the Non-Resident Bangladeshis category.
The award ceremony was held on Wednesday, December 18, at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka. Dr. Asif Nazrul, Advisor to the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment, presented the honor to Dr. Amin.
In a prior declaration, the government had acknowledged 131 NRBs as CIPs in the NRB category for their exemplary remittance contributions in 2023 and 2024.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Amin emphasized the crucial role of expatriate remittances in Bangladesh's economic recovery. "In recent years, a significant portion of remittances has been channeled through informal systems like hundi, depriving the government of vital revenue. To counter this, the government has introduced incentives for remitting through legal channels, resulting in a noticeable increase in formal remittance flows," he stated.
Dr. Amin, a Harvard-trained master teacher and CEO of Swiss Educational College since 2012, is also an accomplished author.
