Document writers and vendors have submitted a memorandum to the UNO protesting against irregularities and corruption of Sreepur Upazila Sub-Registrar Md. Sohel Rana.

They submitted the memorandum on the third day of the three-day shutdown programme. 

At around 1 pm, document writers and vendors took out a procession on DB Road to protest against irregularities and corruption of Sub-Registrar Md. Sohel Rana submitted the memorandum.

A document writer named Md. Zakaria said that the sub-registrar demands additional government fees to renew any document.

Depending on the document, the amount is more than 2 lakh taka. Otherwise, the document is canceled due to various unreasonable errors.

However, if the additional government fee is paid, there are no errors in those documents. Due to this, buyers and sellers of land are also being harassed. Sellers are unable to meet their needs and buyers are also facing financial losses by refraining from their desired activities. On the other hand, the government is being deprived of a huge amount of revenue.

The protesters said that they have been observing a shutdown programme by stopping the document execution activities since July 9. If they do not stop taking additional money apart from government fees, they will refrain from executing documents. If necessary, they will be forced to give a strict agenda by demanding the removal of the accused sub-registrar.

In this regard, Sub-Registrar Md. Sohel Rana told The Country Today  what can be done if someone makes false allegations against someone. I have asked the protesters to talk to me about their demands. They also said that they will talk to me on Monday ( July 14).  The document execution has not stopped, he added.
