Ahsan Alam, Chuadanga

The number of diarrhoea patients has increased in Chuadanga Sadar Hospital. Most of them are children.

Doctors and nurses are struggling to provide services. In the last 1 week, a total of 283 patients have been admitted to the diarrhoea Ward of Sadar Hospital. Most of them are children and elderly. Besides, more than two hundred patients are receiving treatment in the outpatient department of the hospital every day from morning to noon.

According to the Diarrhoea Ward of Chuadanga Sadar Hospital, 283 patients have been admitted in the last one week i.e. from December 4 to Wednesday afternoon. As of Wednesday afternoon, more than 42 patients were admitted to the diorea ward. Most of them were children.

The mother of a child patient named Salma Khatun of Gaidghat village of Chuadanga Sadar Upazila said that my 8-month-old son was admitted with diorea problem 3 days ago. The patient is under so much pressure that it is difficult to stay here. Even then, the boy will have to stay until he recovers.

The mother of another child named Najma Khatun from Gushanpara area of Chuadanga said, "My daughter was having dorea and vomiting since last two days. He was taken to the emergency department of the hospital on Monday morning and the doctor admitted him to the diorea ward.

All medicines including saline are given from the hospital, but if they inform that there is no supply of saline set and canola, they have to buy it from outside.

Resident Medical Officer of Chuadanga Sadar Hospital Dr. Rakib Sadi said, the hospital has all the medicine supply including cholera saline. But no saline set and no canola, hopefully in a few days.

Child consultant of Chuadanga Sadar Hospital Dr. Mahbubur Rahman Milon said that recently children are suffering from various diseases due to rota virus and cold. Diorea patients are more among them. Children are especially affected by rotavirus. Children are suffering from diorea for 4 to 5 days due to lack of medicine. If the virus dies after 5 days, recovery is taking place.

He also said that children should not be fed stale food to get relief from this. It is better to avoid outside food as much as possible. More care should be taken towards children. Wear thick clothes. Diorrhoea will become difficult to deal with if people's awareness about eating unhealthy street food is not increased. Babies from 1 day to 6 months should not be fed anything other than breast milk. Care should also be taken in feeding khichuri. Babies should continue to breastfeed. Keep children as alert as possible.
