Dhaka Shishu Hospital fire extinguished

A fire that broke out at Shishu Hospital in Agargaon area of the capital Dhaka on Friday has been successfully extinguished after at least an hour of efforts hatched by five firefighting units.

The fire broke out at the hospital around 1:45 pm and doused around 2:39 pm, according to the Control Room of the Fire Service Headquarters.

The fire initially ignited at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Cardiac department within the hospital, then started to spread gradually.

On information, five firefighting units from different adjoining fire stations rushed to the spot and extinguished it.

Seven patients were receiving treatment at the ICU when the fire broke out and sensing danger, the hospital authorities promptly relocated the patients to another area to ensure their safety.

Some medical equipment were damaged in the fire, but the hospital authorities have not yet provided any estimate of the extent of the damage.

The source of the fire could not be known immediately.
