Bangladesh has lodged a formal protest with the Government of India over the killing of a Bangladeshi national by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) in Cumilla on 7 October.
The deceased Md. Kamal Hossain, a resident of Sadar South Upazila in Cumilla, was shot dead by BSF on last Monday, according to a statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In the protest note sent to the Indian High Commission in Dhaka, on Wednesday, Bangladesh expresses serious concern that despite repeated commitments from the concerned authorities of India to bring down border killings to ‘zero level’, such incidents by the BSF continue to recur.
Bangladesh said that these border killings are undesirable and unwarranted, and violate the provisions of the Joint Indo-Bangladesh Guidelines for Border Authorities, 1975.
Bangladesh urged the Indian government to take immediate steps to prevent such incidents, thoroughly investigate all border killings, and hold those responsible accountable.
