
Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway blocked demanding arrears in Tongi

Local Season Dresses Limited workers have blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway demanding arrears in Tongi. The incident took place on Wednesday in Ershad city of Tongi.
At that time, the police fired 4 sound grenades and dispersed the workers. Police and locals said that one and a half thousand workers worked at Season Dresses Limited on Khunpara Road in Tongi.
On Wednesday at 5:30 pm, the production work was stopped in front of the factory, demanding payment of arrears for 20 days of March/20 months.
The workers blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in front of Ershadnagar Asia Pump around 9am. The traffic stopped on both sides. Later, around 8am, the industry police fired 5 sound grenades and two rounds of teargas and dispersed the workers using watercraft. During this time, the workers were staying separately in the lane around the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway.
When the workers were dispersed in the efforts of the law and order, the movement of traffic on both sides of the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway was normalized at around 7pm.
Ismail Hossain, inspector of Tongi Zone of the Gazipur Industrial Police, said five sound grenades were fired to disperse the workers. Now the highway is normal.
