Current leadership of BKMEA illegal: Masuduzzaman
Staff Correspondent, Narayanganj
The President of the Narayanganj Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Masuduzzaman, stated that everyone wants to work together, but they are still deprived of many things.
Narayanganj has a Deputy Commissioner, a Superintendent of Police, and a City Corporation Administrator, yet their activities do not align with the dreams of the people of Narayanganj. The dreams of the people must be realized in their own eyes, otherwise, the officials can leave. If they genuinely want the welfare of Narayanganj and have the will to work, they may stay; otherwise, they can find other places to work.
Speaking at a roundtable discussion titled *"What Kind of Narayanganj Do We Want?"* organized by *Amar Narayanganj* at Narayanganj Press Club on Saturday he made these remarks.
Masuduzzaman further stated, *"When we invited them, they told us to type a report and send it to them. But why? If they want to hear from us, they must come to us. Sitting in glass offices, they cannot understand the struggles of the poor. When we invited the SP, he asked whether the DC would attend or not. We do not want to get entangled in bureaucratic complications. We are trying to reduce traffic congestion by limiting auto-rickshaws, yet he is issuing rickshaw licenses. Why? Personal interest. We do not need such an administrator. If they cannot solve our problems, we will not pay taxes. Why should we be afraid?"*
He added, "Every SP comes and says there is zero tolerance for drugs. This SP also said the same thing. Yet, within one kilometer of his office, there is a drug market. So what exactly is he doing? The common people of Narayanganj are not receiving any help from him. I urge everyone here to stand firm—everything will fall into place. 'Amar Narayanganj' is an organization for everyone. We will also try to include women in this organization."
Masuduzzaman also demanded justice for the murder of the meritorious Narayanganj student Taqi and all other murder cases. He urged that the godfathers and their children involved in these killings be brought to justice.
Regarding BKMEA, he stated, *"While the committees of FBCCI and BGMEA have been dissolved, BKMEA's committee remains intact. The current leadership of BKMEA is illegal. In his resignation letter, Selim Osman suggested that Hatim be made the president. But why? Why should he decide? Then a drama unfolded—two directors resigned, and Hatim came to my office. The first thing he asked me was, 'What just happened?' Then he told me, 'Selim Bhai wants to talk to you.' So, this is the BKMEA of our so-called Hatim Bhai. In all these years, they have not been able to resolve the VAT issue. They have never spoken in favor of the garment industry—only about their personal interests."*
He continued, *"These so-called tyrants and their accomplices—if they do not leave on their own, we will take to the streets. Please stand by us."*
Addressing journalists, he said, *"Take your pen in the direction of truth. We all have this expectation from you."*
Present at the event were *Amra Narayanganjbashi* President and Freedom Fighter Nur Uddin Ahmed, former BNP President and former MP Muhammad Gias Uddin, Press Club President Arif Alam Dipu, General Secretary Rafiqul Islam Jibon, former Press Club President Advocate Mahbubur Rahman Masum, Jamaat-e-Islami Central Working Committee Member Maulana Moinuddin Ahmed, Metropolitan BNP Convener Advocate Sakhawat Hossain Khan, Member Secretary Advocate Abu Al Yusuf Khan Tipu, Islami Andolon Bangladesh Narayanganj Metropolitan President Mufti Masum Billah, Narayanganj College Principal and former Press Club President Professor Ruman Reza, NAP Narayanganj Convener Advocate Awlad Hossain, Bangladesh Textile Workers Federation President Advocate Mahbubur Rahman Ismail, Ganosanghati Andolon Narayanganj District Coordinator Tarikul Sujon, Narayanganj District Chhatra Federation President Farhana Manik Muna, and others.
