Ctg polygamist murdered ‘by 4th wife’ after secret ‘5th marriage’
Chattogram Bureau
In the heart of Chattogram’s Halishahar area, a shocking crime unfolded in the dead of night—one that stemmed from the fragile fault lines of a troubled marriage.
A woman, allegedly driven by rage upon discovering her husband’s secret fifth marriage, took matters into her own hands, ending his life in a violent attack.
The accused, 23-year-old Nur Jahan, was arrested shortly after allegedly hacking her husband, Alauddin, to death in their home.
The brutal incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, raising questions about trust, betrayal and the consequences of concealed relationships.
A Life of Marital Discord
Alauddin, a 36-year-old daily wage earner, had been living with his fourth wife, Nur Jahan, in the Bashundhara residential area.
According to neighbours, their relationship was fraught with tension, with frequent arguments disturbing the peace of their home. It was the revelation of Alauddin’s fifth secret marriage that ultimately led to the fateful night of violence.
“Nur Jahan was devastated when she found out about his latest marriage. She had been suspecting something, but when the truth came out, she couldn’t contain her anger,” said a neighbour, requesting anonymity.
The couple’s fights reportedly escalated after the revelation.
Sources say Nur Jahan felt betrayed, having already endured the complexities of sharing her husband with his previous wives. Her anger peaked when Alauddin allegedly threatened to divorce her.
A Night of Tragedy
On Saturday night, another heated argument broke out between the couple. Neighbours reported hearing raised voices before silence fell over their home.
In the early hours of the morning, unable to control her fury, Nur Jahan allegedly grabbed a machete and attacked Alauddin repeatedly, ensuring his death before fleeing the scene.
Shocked neighbours, discovering the lifeless body, immediately informed the police.
Officers from Halishahar Police Station arrived and recovered the weapon believed to have been used in the crime. Alauddin’s body was sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for postmortem examination.
“We are investigating the matter thoroughly. The accused is in custody, and further legal steps will follow based on our findings,” said Mohammad Maniruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Halishahar Police Station.
As the investigation continues, the community in Halishahar remains in disbelief. While legal proceedings will determine the fate of Nur Jahan, the tragic end of Alauddin serves as a stark reminder of the dire consequences that unchecked domestic disputes can lead to.
Polygamous marriages are legally permitted for Muslim families in Bangladesh but are subject to restrictions and are becoming increasingly rare.
Women rights activists actively discourage the practice, highlighting its social and economic implications.
