Couple run over and killed by pickup in Dhaka's Jatrabari

A couple has been killed and their teenage daughter injured after they were run over by a speeding pickup van while crossing the road in Dhaka's Jatrabari.
The incident occurred around 7am on Monday on the road opposite Saddam Market in Mutail, according to Sub-Inspector Md Mahmudul Hasan Irfan of Jatrabari Police Station.
The victims were identified as Abdul Jabbar and his wife Runa Akter. Their 14-year-old daughter Jui Akter suffered serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
The family had been living in Demra's Konapara area.
“The three of them had left home in the morning to travel to their village in Jamalpur. As they were crossing the road near Saddam Market, a speeding pickup van hit them. Runa Akter died on the spot, while Abdul Jabbar succumbed to his injuries after being taken to a nearby hospital,” said SI Mahmudul.
Jui’s elder sister Jannatul expressed her dismay, saying, “Jui was with our parents when the accident happened. She is now admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and her condition is critical.”
