A controversy has emerged in Jharabarsa Mouza under Dakbangla Bazar of Ghuridah Union in Saghata Upazila of Gaibandha over the sale of a piece of land.

The seller, former army member Ashraful Islam, has alleged that a planned campaign of misinformation and defamation is being carried out against the buyer following the land transaction. He made the allegations at a press conference held at Gaibandha Press Club.

In his written statement, Ashraful Islam said that during his service in the Bangladesh Army, he purchased five decimals of land in Jharabarsa Mouza with his savings. Later, with the consent of his wife, Sanjida Shelly Shapla, he constructed a three-storey building on two and a half decimals of that land and had been living there with his family for years.

He stated that due to sudden health complications and financial necessity for treatment and family expenses, he sold the two and a half decimals of land along with the three-storey building to local resident Advocate Zillur Rahman through a registered deed on April 8.

According to him, his wife, father-in-law Shahaduzzaman Saju, and other family members were present during the transaction, and possession of the property was formally handed over to the buyer in their presence.

Ashraful Islam further alleged that shortly after the sale, his wife, Sanjida Shelly Shapla, began spreading various allegations and misinformation against Advocate Zillur Rahman. He claimed that on May 8, the buyer’s appointed caretaker, Asaduzzaman, was forcibly removed from the property.

Following the incident, caretaker Asaduzzaman filed a case with the Saghata Executive Magistrate Court on May 20. According to the statement presented at the press conference, after the court issued a show-cause notice, Shapla voluntarily vacated the premises.
