
Consumer Rights Department conducts drive in Shreepur, two establishments fined Tk 50,000

The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection, Magura District Office, conducted a drive on Monday in Langolbandh Bazar of Shreepur Upazila.
The joint operation from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. was carried out with the participation of the Magura District Seed Certification Office and the Shreepur Upazila Agriculture Office.
During the operation, various seed and fertilizer dealers, grocery stores, and essential commodity shops were inspected.
Messrs. Kamal Beej Bhandar was fined Tk 20,000 under Section 45 of the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009, for offenses including the sale and purchase of seeds without a valid license, selling unauthorized seeds, storing seeds without importer tags, and failure to properly maintain purchase and sales vouchers.
Additionally, Messrs. Eva Enterprise, a BADC fertilizer dealer, was fined Tk 30,000 under Section 40 of the same Act for selling fertilizer at prices higher than the government-fixed rate and for failing to maintain proper vouchers.
In total, the two establishments were fined Tk 50,000.
Business owners were instructed to sell products at fair prices, display updated price lists, and properly maintain purchase and sales vouchers. They were also warned against violating the law in the future.
The drive was led by Sajal Ahmed, Assistant Director of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection, Magura District Office, with the assistance of Dr. Sushanta Kumar Tarafdar, District Seed Certification Officer; Humayun Kabir, Upazila Agriculture Officer; and a team from the Magura District Police.
